The Manipur Film Development Corporation Auditorium has been constructed with an estimated cost of Rs.14.44 crores under State Plane Assistance by the Manipur Development Society inside the Palace Compound, Imphal. The Auditorium was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on the 3rd December, 2011.
The Auditorium, which will serve as a hall for screening films and also cultural/musical performance, has a capacity of 800 seats. The building also houses a conference Hall, Preview Theatre with a capacity of 40 seats and 2 Studios with shooting and post-shooting processing equipments for digital and celluloid films.
The Auditorium will facilitate organisation of regional and national film festivals. It can also be utilized for holding conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. on film and other topics on culture. The Auditorium will also serve as a centre for cultural activities, such as dance, drama and musical programmes.
Art and Culture lies at the core of the Strength of the Manipuris. The Film Industry, being a part of this, is vibrant and in recent years has seen a major growth in Manipur. Many film directors and camera person from the state have won national and international awards. This industry is poised to grow further. The MFDC Auditorium and its facilities will act as a hub for further advancement in this field.
